Awesome pens
Awesome pens wish they had different colors of ink instead of just black ink

Gravity Sensing Pens, automatically retract when not in use
The description of this product alone was enough to get me to want to try them out, and my overwhelming love for pens added to that. The pens are gravity sensing, auto-retracting black ballpoint pens. They are black ink with a fine 0.5mm tip. The design of the pen allows the tip to automatically retract when the pen is lying flat and then when picked up or help upright the tip comes out on its own. I have never seen anything like this before, and I do think the idea is pretty neat. If you were to drop the pen, the tip would automatically retract on its own. I’m not sure I have a need for something like this though, not as far as my everyday life goes. The price point of the 3 pack is pretty high if you ask me and I dont see myself buying them again. I do think the concept of the pens is pretty neat though.

Science—Gravity—or Magic?
In the late 1980s or early 1990s, my mother bought a set of 2 gold-tone, metal pens for me. She bought them from a man who had a display in a department store. The pens were advertised as magical technology—no clickers or twist mechanisms needed—no caps to remove and lose—you just turned the pen up to write and the writing tip ‘magically’ appeared and locked in position to write. When you finished writing, you just turned the pen upside down and the writing tip automatically retracted. These were novelty pens, and I loved them! They worked on the scientific principle of gravity.Flash forward to 2025, and the same principle is at work in these Aechy gravity-defying pens—simple gravity! One other point to mention right away is price. In the late 1980s or early 1990s, my mom paid over $10 for those two gold-tone, metal-body pens. Today, the price per pen is still roughly the same—$5 per pen. I call that a bargain for something novel.1. Be aware of the lock button on this pen and gently use it. That button locks in your writing tip—either outside of the pen body and ready to write—or inside the pen body for storage or travel.I always give the pen a downward, gentle shake to help “lock in” the writing tip before starting to write. There is likely a metal ball, or other simple mechanism, inside the pen body that moves downward to lock the writing tip in place while the pen is held upright in a writing position. When the pen is laid down flat, or turned upside down, gravity releases the ball to roll away from the writing tip allowing it to retract. It isn’t magic—just basic science.Again, a gentle downward shake of the pen will lock the pen tip in place. You can also use the locking button near the top of the pen body. Please see my photo of this button.2. The pen tip is 0.5—a fine tip refill. I like the feel of this pen in my hand and how it looks. My favorite pen in this set is the light blue one. The pen body is smooth, sleek plastic, but there is a same-color, silicone rubber grip for holding while writing.3. The pens are 6.3 inches in length, which feels comfortable while writing. I included a video of me writing with the blue pen. I think that it writes well. I did include a close-up photo of the locking button.4. To change the pen refill, gently turn the plastic pen tip counterclockwise while looking directly at the pen tip. When I did this, I had the “lock button” in the “off” position and the pen tip was retracted. Please see my photos with the blue pen tip removed from the pen body.Next, and very importantly, hold the metal refill tip and gently turn it counterclockwise until it is released from the pen body. It then pulls straight out. Please see photos.Place the new refill in the pen body and simply reverse the process.5. The pen refill looks pretty basic and should be available online or at a retailer that sells pens and refills. Please remember to measure the length of the refill before buying.Overall, I really like these pens. Importantly, they do write well and they are attractive. Plus, it can be fun to use novelty pens. People will likely ask about your pen, or they will want to try writing with it. Instant conversation starter! 😊

1/3 work.
2/3 of the pens don’t work. They don’t stay “open/down” so I can write. Pretty upset because I do really like these pens.

FUNctional
This is great for fidgeters. I love how it auto-deploys, but it does take some getting used to when writing. You also have to remember if you put your pen in a vertical pocket, the point will deploy. The point is a needle point 0.5mm tip. It writes smoothly and super fine. This tip can feel like it is scratching on the paper, so you need to slow down your writing. It is a tip more for people that write smaller than larger. You do have to experiment to get how to use the little slide button to lock the point out or in or auto-deploy. There is a silicone gripper on the end that does help cushion your writing. The set of three is perfect for keeping one everywhere you need one. I wish they had a 0.7mm tip as well.

Not nearly as cool as the description makes it seem
The pen tip comes out when you point the tip downPackage talks about refills but includes noneAutolocks when the pen is dropped from a significant heightdirections are unclear to say the least, Locking mechanism needs to be up to access penLocking mechanism is difficult to use Without fingernails beyond the tip of you’re fingerPen is nice to write with, knuckle support is great ONCE YOU GET THE TIP OUTAll ink is blackPackage is really nice, simpleAs a person who loves pens, I’d be PISSED if I’d had paid for this and I love the over engineered nerdy pens of Japan and the like, and I’ve paid hundreds of dollars for a single pen

Nice pens, but pricey.
These are nice pens with a cool trick. They write well, and feel comfortable in the hand. The silicon grip feels good and they are good pens. The trick part works really well. When you lay it on its side, the point retracts, and when you turn it upright the point comes out and stays securely in place while you write. It’s pretty fun, and practical. The catch is that these pens are so expensive for what they are. They’re nice pens, but are made of plastic. I don’t know how long the ink will last and they don’t seem to be that nice that I would want to refill them at some point. At the cost, they are so-so… as a nice replaceable pen to use in the meantime, they’re nice.

I like these pens, they arrive with a little red hat on to keep the ink from drying.Once removed the ink flows beautifully and is really black and well pigmented, with a really smooth feel to it.The retractable mechanism is clever, and it works, once you’ve released the pen with the little switch (the logo is a little rubbing away but I’m not going to complain about that) is pushed across. The one that I leave on the desk just remains in retractable mode, the little switch pushed across for the one in my handbag. At the time of reviewing these are £12.34 for three, £4.11 isn’t cheap but they are nice pens

The pens promise a sleek, retractable design and even a fall-protection feature, which is quite appealing for everyday use. Out of the box, they look professional and feel solid in hand, with a grip that’s easy on the fingers during longer writing sessions. The smoothness of the ink flow is one of the standout features—when the pens work. The fine point delivers precise lines, making it great for note-taking, journaling, and detailed work. The black ink is dark and consistent, without smudging easily, which is always a plus for left-handed writers or those who need clean, neat notes.Unfortunately, the set has some quality control issues. One of pens in the pack didn’t work at all right from the start, while others would occasionally skip or stop writing mid-sentence. The auto-retract function on some units also seemed less responsive, requiring multiple clicks before the tip would extend or retract properly. This inconsistency is frustrating, especially when you expect a brand-new set to work flawlessly. The fall-protection feature is a thoughtful addition and does seem to work—dropping the pen onto a hard floor didn’t damage the tip or cause ink leakage in my testing. The build quality on the functioning pens feels sturdy, and the silicone grip remains comfortable even after extended use. If all the pens in the set matched the performance of the best ones, this could easily be a go-to everyday writing tool.Overall, it offers potential but suffers from inconsistent performance across the pack. For the pens that work, they’re smooth, comfortable, and durable. However, the fact that several arrived defective makes it hard to recommend without reservations. If the manufacturer improves quality control, this could be an excellent choice for anyone seeking a fine-point, comfortable ballpoint pen with a modern design.

The AECHY Gravity Auto-Retract Pen presents a sleek, modern design combined with a unique gravity-driven retracting mechanism, offering a futuristic and engaging user experience. However, its practicality is somewhat limited.Despite its innovative concept, the pen requires manual locking in both the retracted and writing positions. This means that, to prevent the nib from accidentally extending (for example, inside a bag), it must be locked. Likewise, to write without the nib retracting unintentionally, it must be locked again. In essence, the locking mechanism performs the same function as a traditional pen’s click or twist mechanism, making the gravity feature feel more like a novelty than a necessity. The pen does automatically retract when turned upright, which can help avoid accidental ink marks. However, because locking is still required to keep it safely retracted, this advantage is somewhat diminished.Functionally, the pen performs well. It delivers a smooth, consistent ink flow and quick-drying results, making it well-suited for everyday writing tasks. The silicone grip enhances comfort during extended use, reducing hand fatigue. Additionally, the build quality feels durable and professional, making it an attractive choice for work, school, or journaling.Overall, while the gravity feature may not significantly enhance usability, the AECHY Gravity Auto-Retract Pen remains a stylish and solidly built alternative to standard ballpoint pens.

So these look very nice and stylish with their smooth and robust ABS body and a silicone writing grip at the nib end.You do have to lock the nib in retract mode and then unlock and relock to hold the nip out when you want to write but I suppose that is one of the points of the pen (to prevent accidental nib exposure !) so not really a negative and more a functional feature with the benefit of no accidental pen marking. Why the 3 stars then I hear you asking yourselves – well 2 reasons as follows -i) lack of consistency in ink flow – when these write they are lovely to write with and have a precise and smooth flowing style however one of the pens was a bit start stop out of the box – a wee bit of faffing gets the ink flowing again and will see if this eases over time but disappointing for a brand new itemii) the price (£10.99 at time of review) makes these fairly pricey pens. For context this is said by someone who hasn’t bought a pen in almost 30 years and is happy to use whatever comes to hand (probably a giveaway from an exhibition or show) without major issues.
