solid upgrade from the previous generation
I recently upgraded to the new Blink Doorbell (2nd Gen), and the improvements are noticeable right away. The video quality is clearer and brighter, especially in low light, and the motion detection feels more accurate than the first generation.Setup was quick — the app recognized the device immediately, and connecting it to Wi-Fi took less than a minute. The notifications come through fast, and two-way audio is much clearer than before. I also like that the doorbell works smoothly whether you use it wired or wireless. The battery life has been good so far, even with frequent motion alerts. The new design also looks a bit more modern on the front door.Overall, this feels like a solid and worthwhile upgrade. If you’re already in the Blink ecosystem or looking for an easy-to-use smart doorbell, this one works really well.

Dead batteries, but otherwise great 👍
Works great. Much better than my old Blink. I’m curious to see if the battery life is really as good as it says though. I had bought a solar panel for my previous one and my kid tripped over the wire (mind you it was not laying on the open lol so we dont know how he managed it) and the doorbell came off the wall and never worked again.I was excited to find this on sale. Made it affordable and worth it to replace my old doorbell especially since it comes with a sync module. I’d wanted one before but never found the extra budget to justify it. It works beautifully. Integrated with my Alexa to turn on my porch Light with motion detection. I like that you can turn off motion detection for animals. My cats are notorious for wanting to be outside at night and they have to go on the porch and set off the doorbell. The 2 way talk is nice when I need to tell my kids to stop fussing or messing around when they’re waiting for the bus and it’s not too bad of a lag time or delay. Easy to install, app is easy enough to figure out. My only problem is that teh batteries it came with were dead lol.

Blink Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) Review: A Worthwhile Upgrade
The new Blink Video Doorbell is a significant step up from the original, making it an excellent choice for budget-conscious homeowners looking for robust security features. This second-generation model delivers major improvements, especially in its field of view and overall performance. The most fantastic improvement is the Head-to-Toe HD view (with a new 1:1 aspect ratio). This change alone is a game-changer, eliminating the frustrating blind spots where packages might have been sitting unseen on the doorstep. Coupled with an expanded field of view (now 150 degrees, up from 135), the range and quality of what you can capture far surpasses the previous Blink doorbell. Live view also seems to load faster, making on-demand checks much more responsive. The camera now offers higher 1440p resolution and an improved IP65 weather rating, ensuring better video clarity and durability in the elements. For users with a Blink Subscription Plan, this new generation also adds person detection, a valuable feature for cutting down on unnecessary alerts. The only negative, as noted, is the increased battery consumption, requiring three AA Energizer lithium batteries instead of the original two. While this is a minor inconvenience that may lead to higher running costs in the long term, the trade-off is often worth it for the drastically improved viewing capability and the overall enhanced performance. Despite the extra battery, Blink still claims up to two years of battery life when paired with a Sync Module Core, which is impressive for a wireless device. In summary, the 2nd Generation Blink Doorbell is a strong competitor in the affordable smart doorbell market, delivering crucial visual enhancements that make it a highly recommended upgrade.

Good Device, Firmware could do with a bit of updating – see end of review for that
First of all, don’t bother getting the package option with the so-called sync module, as it’s not what you think it is.. The one in the other package, that I ought to not have purchased and now have no time or desire to return, has no slot for an SD card, and is thus –just a connector device and a range extender and camera integration assistant– so it is not worth it unless you have multiple devices, use only a cloud account subscription and don’t mind paying too much… The base unit without the “Range extender” is very much worth the money this time, and all most of us will need. I am very… very.. pleased with the upgrade. The Sync Module XR is what you need for local recording. I am using my old Sync Module 2 until I can afford the new one.. It’s a bit pricy. This is a procurement for later, and hopefully when it is on sale and I have finished my payments on this bell, and the new Echo upgrades. (*See my review on the latest edition of the Echo Show 8 for continued remarks*) I feel very much scammed on this note, because they tell you nothing about requiring you to purchase the Sync Module XR in the ad, and they REALLY Ought To, and ther is not much information on the Blink Website about this either. I find this to be a bit underhanded of them in a P. T. Barnum kind of way. The new model is substantially larger in than the old one, thicker, not bigger around all that much. I suggest using rechargable Lithium Ion batteries instead of those ridiculously expensive Energizer Ultra Lithium batteries (They send three fresh ones of this type with the unit, Bless Them –so I can wait until I need to replace them or choose to upgrade the set when I do all the clocks in the house later on). They really upgraded the backplate and made it a LOT more durable, and this time they included the left-right type angle bracket, so I didn’t have to spend $7.99 seperately for a new one. (If your bell is mounted either high or low and you need vertical change, then you will have to purchase this separately, but it is nice that they send the horizontal model.) The old left-right angle bracket fit the new backplate, but is not precisely the right size around, or by length and width by a little over 1mm. This is enough to potentially let in water if you install outside, so use the new parts. I had no problems mounting the new bracket or installing the backplate. Adding the unit to the Blink app was the usual breeze and actually faster and easier than the last time. The body of the device is also of better quality plastic than the previous model. What are callling white is now sort of a tan-beige off-white, and not the stark white of the last model; I prefer the snow white of the last one, but it is acceptible. The picture quality is Definitely…substantially… better… and over all detection is much faster, but surprised me a bit with a default shape being a square instead of filling my Echo’s 16:9 style format screen (This is undoubtedly for better viewing on mobile devices). I later remembered that you may pinch zoom the camera display in the echo, so a slight adjustment took it from a 4:4 square aspect to more of a 16:9 aspect and totally solved my problem. The WiFi range and connectivity is most excellent, and a definite improvement over the 2023 model. My doorbell is inside in a hallway, so there is no weather to consider. And Good News People!!! They listened to us and now the back of the doorbell is no longer open to the elements and has an actual, and regular –with a proper rubber seal waterproof battery door, so no more corroding and such. Some folks may want to mount without the angle iron – heh – as it does make it stick out a bit more noticably than the previous 2023 edition (TG there is a handrail on the wall in my complex.. The new bell is still within the natural range of a normal interial handrail depth; i.e. a round or squarish model like you would have on a staircase). I hope this means that people will actually “Ring My Bell” *snickers* Anita Ward Style!.. From Now On!!! (especially delivery personnel –as I have in writing, requested they so do).. They CAN’T Miss The New Doorbell –and say they don’t see it.. It’s very obvious. I also make a short mention that the upgrade to the visual aesthetic styling of the button and front face of the unit is more sleek and stylish than before. The arpeture view is definitely better, and the clarity of the image upgrade is very very noticable and most excellent. I have two complaints and will be submitting them to Blink Support for review and later firmware updates, hopefully sooner than later. Like the last model. I had to set the outdoor chime to silent 3 or 4 times until it actually accepted the setting and stays quiet at the button. I don’t want it disturbing the neighbors since we are inside the complex halls that act like waveguides (This means someone can hear my doorbell around the cornere and half way downt he next hall if I don’t turn it off and it chimes outside). My other and biggest complaint is that there is No Setting To DECIDE If I WANT to have it wake the echo every time and use my batteries to show me the camera automatically as soemone presses the button, or to not have it show. I prefer to be able to ask….. Our Dear Alexa.. heh… to show it to me upon manual request.. I formally request this feature to be added forthwith and with haste. Overall.. the bell is worth the upgrade, just don’t bot her with the popsicle (the so-called sync module in the other package) unless you actually need it.. Get the XR model that actually has local recording.Namaste and have a Blessed Day.
