Whereth every penny
I bought this just before camping out in the deep woods with my family. I got over a 1/2 a mile range with no problem through dense woods. I highly recommend battery life was great. Used it for 4 nights, didn’t charge at all. The sound quality on it was very clear. It fit perfectly in my hand and wasn’t too heavy or cumbersome.Well, worth the price.Great range, just keep in mind that others with 16 channel radios, we’ll be able to listen and talk also which is great, because if you have a large group, they can bring their own and communicate amongst each other.

Simple enough for challenged seniors to use
So far so good. I thought it took batteries as a back up, but it doesnt. Also, there’s no way to tell when the walkie talkies are fully charged, or how much of a charge is left on them. But they’re a good price & easy enough for my older aging senior friends to use and they work well. Really love the fact that they each come with their own USB chargers & don’t sit in a shared dock. Happy with the purchase

Good Deal!
Good deal for the money! Huge draw was the rechargeability versus feeding batteries to our old units!

Operational right out of the box but programming requires a special cable
The PTTalky FR1 Walkie Talkies are compact lightweight radios that operate in FRS bands. The radios support 16 channels and come preprogrammed with a frequency for each channel. Each radio includes a rechargeable battery, a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, a clip used to attach the radio to a pocket, belt, etc., and an instruction sheet. The radios have two knobs, one is the on/off/volume control, the other is the channel selector. The sound quality when transmitting between the two radios is quite good. The box for the radios includes a link to an older-style Windows program, FR1, for configuring the radios. Programming the radios requires a special cable to connect between a PC and the radios, but the cable is not included with the radios. (The included USB cables work to charge the radios, but not for programming them.) It is disappointing that there is no cable, as there are useful features not enabled by default, such as using channel 16 to enable channel-scanning. Plus, it would have been nice to read in the configuration of the radios to see what frequency is programmed for each channel. I have a programming cable I use with other radios. That cable and the COM port it used were detected by the FR1 program, but the program was unable to read from or write to the radios using my cable. I also set a different radio to the CH1 frequency shown by the FR1 program, and I was able to hear the FR1 transmissions on that radio, so it appears the frequencies in the FR1 program match the default frequencies in the radios. These are great little radios for family communication and should work fine as configured for most FRS scenarios.

Campground Communications Made Simple: Reliable, Clear, and Ready for Action
After a season of weekend trips and a handful of extended stays, these PTTalky FR1 walkie-talkies have become an essential part of our camping kit. Whether we’re coordinating dinner prep between sites or checking in on kids at the playground, I can reach anyone who has a radio almost instantly.Crystal-clear audioEven in wind or light rain, voices come through loud and well-defined, so there’s no need to repeat yourself.Real-world distanceIn our tests across the campground and along nearby trails, we consistently got just over a mile of range before noticing any crackle, well within the rated three-kilometer maximum for open areas.Battery & ChargingThe 1,200 mAh batteries easily last a full day of on-and-off chatter, and the USB-C port lets us top them up with the same power bank we use for phones. A quick 90-minute charge in the afternoon prepares them for the evening campfire run.Ease of UseWith 16 preset FRS channels and simple CTCSS/DCS matching, our whole group was synced up in minutes. The hands-free VOX mode (hold the side button three seconds to enable) is surprisingly handy when your hands are full of firewood or fishing gear, and the busy-channel lockout prevents accidental talk-overs.Build QualityThe casings feel solid but not overly heavy, the buttons have a satisfying click, and the belt clips haven’t loosened after several hikes. We’ve dropped them on packed gravel more than once with no ill effects beyond a scuff.Extras That MatterVoice and low-battery alerts mean you’re never caught off guard.A built-in time-out timer keeps kids from holding the PTT button forever.Bottom LineFrom coordinating campsite setup to quick check-ins across the grounds, these FR1 radios deliver dependable range, fast charging, and user-friendly features in a rugged package. This set is hard to beat if you need a straightforward, license-free solution for families, scout troops, or work crews.

Perfect for using around the farm
We have a small farm and we like using two way radios to communicate with each other when we’re out in the field. We’ve tried about a dozen different kinds of these two way radios and these perform the same as the others in terms of battery life and range. These have enough range to reach out to the road in front of our property and that’s 1100 feet. The size is ok, but they’re a bit large than some of the other two way radios we’ve used. The sound quality is ok and it is easy to hear the other user. Overall these two way radios work great.
