These are definitely worth looking into
These are a lifesaver with PG&E rates spiraling completely out of control. I put a bunch of my accent lights on them and it’s so nice to be able to turn them on and off with my phone and micromanage them to the point that I actually am probably saving on my hyper-inflated electricity bill – did I mention hyper-inflated? On top of that, these Tapo products are all really nicely built and not all cheap and plasticy. I hate cheap and plasticy. With a passion. These aren’t that. They’re very solid, high-end luxuriously finished plastic and relatively heavy even – extremely nice and for the price I honestly cannot fault them in any way. I’m going to buy more under the circumstances this Tapo ecosystem is the best I’ve seen yet at any price. It sets up easy and just works.

    LOVE
I now have smart bulbs or plug ins for all my lights except the overheads….I also have several brands. I purchased a TP link indoor security/baby monitor camera a few months ago to be able to keep an eye on my bedridden spouse. I liked it so much I immediately bought a second for the hearth room. Those were so easy to set up that when I wanted another smart plug in I looked for the TP brand again. YAY. I already had the app on my phone so set up took maybe 2 minutes – for it to find the device….THEN a minute to set it up with Alexa….again so easy because I had the TP app on my phone.I gifted my neighbor with one of my three. She has said “I should maybe get things like that”….so I helped her plug in her first smart plug, helped her get the app on her phone and then get her Echo to find it. She was really proud of her first SMART light. She will be buying more. You can’t go wrong with this brand. They have amazing prices on really quality products that seem to work seamlessly.I just ordered one of their outdoor SOLAR security cameras that I need to install. The solar panel goes up near the roof line and I have a perfect spot on the facia to attach the light.I really like that I can control my TP Link devices with their app, with my alexa app, or with my voice. I really really love this brand.

Easy to set up, especially if you read the instructions first!
I initially struggled with setting up these smart plugs, even though I’m relatively “techie”. I purposely bought the ones that work with the Apple HomeKit, not realizing I didn’t NEED the Apple HomeKit in order for them to work. I tried setting them up through the (Apple HomeKit) app, and nothing was working. I finally realized that unless you want to coordinate a lot of different devices and features, you don’t need to use HomeKit. (If you do want to use Apple HomeKit, you need to set them up through the Tapo app first.) Went to the Tapo app and easily set up multiple plugs for things like air filters, a fountain, and grow lights for my plants. All I wanted them for was to turn lights, etc., off and on at specific times. I’m not even using the HomeKit app, in fact I deleted it, and everything is working perfectly.

Pretty good but some kinks with “matter” technology
Needed a couple of smart plugs and saw there is a brand new technology called “matter” that allows smart devices to continue to function on the local network if the internet is down, and also can work across multiple smart services (alexa, google, etc.) which I found appealing, so I figured if buying new devices today I would be future proofing with matter. After plugging in, I made the mistake of following the included “quick start” instructions which had me setup the tapo app. Don’t do this if you want to use matter, there is a separate card for matter instructions, and at least for alexa you have to setup devices in a specific order. To back out of that I hard reset the plug (hold power for 10 seconds) then followed TP-Link’s Alexa setup instructions online and paired with an echo dot 5th gen, and that works great! Frankly I’m still confused if the tapo thing is matter or if it’s a different protocol from the multiverse and how they work together. The instructions could be clear here on tapo vs. matter. It was a little challenging setting up the pairing with the Android phone (pixel 7) because while I was trying to scan the QR code in the Alexa app a matter device recurring pop-up kept taking over the screen, I think this is from Android but not sure, and assume it found it from bluetooth. I eventually managed to dismiss that and sneak in the scan for alexa before it came back, and I’m still not sure what would have happened had I tried to set it up via that method.Surprise! Matter doesn’t actually let you control one service via another (e.g., control the device paired to Alexa from Google) unless you own a hub to pair for each service, and I don’t own any Google nest stuff. After I created a code to use it from Google Home, it added the device successfully, but it said offline. So you cannot route Google Home controls on your phone through an echo or vice versa. Sad!So, I actually have a compatible SmartThings hub even though I don’t want to control it from that, and I started going through the same steps to get a pairing code, etc. But, it never successfully paired because the app never got passed the screen that says “Preparing.”Promising technology but still some work to do. The plug works great and as expected with Alexa routines, I’m very happy on that front.—Update: I realize I am one of the first reviewers of these matter smart plugs, so I’m sure people are asking “What’s a matter with SmartThings?” following this review. I’m happy to report that I saw a SmartThings app update come down on Android today, so on a hunch I tried to setup the plug again by getting a new code from Alexa, and sure enough this time it worked! It’s an “Aeotec Smart Home Hub” for those interested.

    Simple, affordable and functional
These are great. I managed to get all three of these added to my network and integrated with my Google mini device so I can control all three with simple voice commands. Great product.

    Best smart plug EVER!!!
I’ve purchased a bunch of “smart” plugs over the years. Most of them take 20-30 minutes to setup and have a confusing app. The TAPO app is straight forward and the setup for these plugs took less than 2 minutes. Plugged them in, connected to the app without having to press a button on the plug, connected to my wifi, downloaded the firmware update and set the schedules in record time. I simply couldn’t believe it. Highly recommend these to anyone. You’ll never look back

    Will handle higher wattage.
Very easy set up. My smart plug network has been evolving. Some manufacturers (Wemo) are getting out of the business so after the first of the year they will need replaced as they will no longer work. I bought this plug for a small heater in the bedroom. Most smart plugs will not safely work with a heater. This one works great. I use a 900w heater with it and it doesn’t heat up the plug at all.

There are plenty of other brands out there, but I selected Tp-Link H105 because it’s the most compact version, as in it doesn’t block the other plug hole, and it comes with a great App that is full of features. The WiFi in this plug is solid, so it’s great for those times when you need to reset a remote camera, or a light, fan, TV… whatever…The scheduler option is great, specially the Dusk and Dawn function, it’s great for lights you want to auto come on at night and off during the day.but the most important thing of it all, the H105 is reliable, it always works even when your WiFi is unreliable. The Kasa App is easy to use and intuitive, unlike other IoT Apps.I’ve had these for several years, then I recently decided to add even more of these plugs because they work so well.
